Bishops Slaughter SACS

Bishops Slaughter SACS

Diocesan College (Bishops) ran rampant against a bewildered South African College High School (SACS) team. Bishops ran in twelve tries to win 80 points to five (half time 38-nil).

The game was fairly even for the first ten minutes and SACS actually had a chance to take the lead but missed a penalty from out wide. A missed touch by SACS skipper Michael Henning gave Bishops the chance to counterattack. Keenan Jacobs danced through some weak SACS defence before offloading to lock Sam Mitchell to score. Not long after Bishops tapped a penalty and No. 8 Suad Abrahams crashed over. Fourteen minutes in and Bishops were 14-nil up. Bishops knew they had SACS’s number and the SACS boys clearly sensed it to.

SACS put together a decent passage of play and if they had used the opportunity to score may have gained some much needed confidence but a dropped pass led to a turnover. One inside pass later and Abrahams was 70 metres downfield again under the sticks. 19-0. He would cross the try-line again as would two of his fellow forwards JP Smith and Mitchell, for his second try, before the break.

The scoring remained brisk throughout the second half with SACS only having brief forays into the Bishops half. Bishops were too big, fast and skilful for a SACS team that fell off too many tackles and struggled to cope with the high tempo of the game.

Bishops basically played sevens rugby for long periods of the game. Their offloads and inside balls catching out the SACS defenders almost at will and some lovely long range tries resulted.

Overall it was a classic display of running rugby from Bishops against a SACS side who were outgunned and left chasing shadows.

Bishops should cope comfortably with De Kuilen next week while SACS have to pick themselves up off the floor to face an improving Rondebosch team.
