The battle of the Southern Suburbs does not get bigger than the Bishops v Rondebosch Derby, these two neighbours have an extensive history and an impressive rivalry.
Dating back 103 years ago, these teams first played each other in 1911 with Bishops, the home of South African rugby, taking the stats with a 51% win record.
Since 2008, six years of trying, no team has won on their home ground in the FNB Classic Clash – this time round it will be Rondebosch's turn to try and break this long standing negative record.
It speaks volumes of the rivalry, each team clearly bumping up their game on enemy ground and not allowing themselves to lose any pride away from home.
Both of these teams have had rocky starts to their season but as the big game approaches they are very much on their best form.
Bishops have suffered a few frustrating loses to some of the bigger teams, falling short against Glenwood, Paarl Gim and Wynberg.
However when the Bishops boys have gotten going the results have been impressive, notably the 90+ victory over SACS.
Bishops' running game has become an enigma around the country, with many applauding it and many stating there is no room for it in South African rugby.
A true test for will be against a Rondebosch team that has a proud history, who can put the strong runners under both mental and physical pressure.
