Captain's Profile: Adriaan Burger
The Classic Clash between HS Duineveld and HS Upington is sure to split the town with a tight, hard fought match on the cards on Saturday.
If recent results are to be used as a measuring stick, Duineveld will be the team to beat even though Upington claimed the bragging rights in 2014. Duineveld captain Adriaan Burger is expecting nothing less than a tough battle against their rivals.
"The matches between the sides are always tough and we expect it to be the same on Saturday. We have held the bragging right in 2012 and 2013 but they managed to narrowly beat us in 2014 and we will do whatever we need to regain our dominance.
"We have a young team with a good mix of experience and have been very fortunate to only have one injury concern for this match. Our season has gone really well thus far as we have won four of our seven matches," he said.
The 1.9m Grade 12 lock has had a taste of Craven Week rugby where he learned he needs to work harder if he is to progress in his rugby career and has a very interesting take on being captain.
"Firstly it is a huge honour to be named captain of the side and it is something I am very proud of. There is a little bit of pressure on my shoulders to perform every game.
"I do not look down on any of my players and prefer to motivate them so that they never give up on the field. For me to expect that from them, I need to lead from the front and be the example for them to follow. We need to make sure we believe in ourselves, each other and to trust each other," he added.
Burger is hopeful he can run out for the University of the North West Pukke in the Varsity Cup.
