Captain's profile: Anaya Klaase

In 2014, Klaase relocated to Bellvillle South from Port-Natal High School in KwaZulu-Natal. Immediately, the first XV coaches saw his talent and leadership qualities, which led to him being presented with the responsibility of captaining the first XV.

Soon his talent was also seen by external coaches and selectors in Cape Town. It was due to prolific performances that saw his talent securing him a place in the Under-16 Western Province squad.

"It was sad leaving [Port-Natal], but since my arrival at Bellville South they have made me feel really welcome.

"Thus, being named captain is a huge honour and responsibility. I really feel privileged to lead the team, especially against Kasselsvlei," Klaase said.

Bellville South have had an amazing season so far. With an unbeaten record and scoring an average of 40 points per game, the hosts go into this match as clear favourites.

"We are unbeaten in this season, and would really like to end the season like that. However I am fully aware of Kassesvlei's strength. They will come at us with everything on Saturday.

"We will take to the field with a relatively young team. Majority of the players are new, while there are five senior players," he added.

The rivalry between the schools has been growing each year. Bellville South have been dominating the head-to-head battles, winning six of the nine matches played. This year being the 10th annual Classic Clash, the No.8 hopes his team can secure back-to-back victories in front of the home crowd.

The matriculant’s future plan is to financially support his mom, who has been his number one fan since he picked up the oval shape ball.
