Captain's profile: Armando du Preez
Hoogenhout captain Armando du Preez wants his team to remain focussed when they come up against old rivals Hoërskool Ermelo in their Classic Clash at home on Saturday.
The 19-year-old hooker has played first team rugby for three years now and has used that experience to prepare his team for what lies ahead.
"I am sure that they (Ermelo) will not hold back during the game. They will come at us with a full force.
"We must be focused on our goal and when we step onto the field there is no time to be scared," said Du Preez.
The 1.80m, 98kg forward was selected to play for the Griquas Under-19 side, which he maintains is the highlight of his career so far. Playing representative rugby at Craven Week is also an experience that has meant a lot him as a young rugby player.
"It was one of the greatest experiences in my rugby career. I learnt a lot about the sport I love," he said.
Du Preez has welcomed the role as captain of his first team and will aim to use his responsibility to inspire his teammates.
"I feel honoured to be named first team captain. I am able to lead the team by example and keep them positive.
"My philosophy as captain is – the person that talks about winning seldom wins, but the person that shows he wants to win, will win," he added.
Du Preez said he would like to study for the next few years after school and maybe play a bit of rugby when he is not hitting the books.
