Captain's Profile: Charl Cuttings
Schoonspruit captain Charl Cuttings knows his side will have it all do to when they go up against Piketberg in a FNB Classic Clash on Saturday, if they are to avenge last year's narrow defeat.
In last year's Classic Clash, Piketberg scored in the final minute of the match to claim victory and it is going to be a tough task for Schoonspruit who will be fielding a very young side – majority of them being Under-17.
"The matches between the sides have always been tight. This will be the ninth time we are competing against each other in a Classic Clash and we have won five matches while they have won three. Last year, they beat us in the final minute, so we have a point to prove.
"We will be fielding a very young team as the majority of the side is still U17 and only three of last year's players are still playing. We have a had a bumpy this season so far but the most important thing is that everyone is learning from their mistakes and we are improving each week.
"We are looking forward to Saturday's challenge and we know there is no place to hide. Everything is at stake and, as captain, I'm confident and believe in every team member," he said.
The Grade 12 pupil, who packs down at the back of the scrum, is currently part of the Boland U18 Elite Squad and believes communication is going to be vital if they are to get enough quality ball.
"Normally their strength is their pack of forwards and I feel like it is going to be no different this year. Therefore, getting enough quality ball will be key to our success and I am at the centre of making sure we communicate properly.
"I enjoy being involved in every facet of the game and love carrying the ball, so it will be my job to ensure the backline gets quality service," he added.
Cuttings feels extremely honoured and privileged to be able to captain his side in this match as not many players are afforded this opportunity and hopes that his style of play and attitude on the field, serves as an inspiration to the rest of his team mates.
