Captain's profile: Donovan Bouwer
Donovan Bouwer says that wearing the black jersey of the Bethlehem Voortrekker first team has been the highlight of his rugby career so far.
The explosive centre represented the Griffons at the 2013 Grant Khomo Week, which gave him the chance to test himself against players at a higher level, but leading his school ranks as a higher honour for him.
"It’s a great honour. With a strong mind, hard work and never giving up, you can achieve anything," he said.
The midfielder prides himself on his ability to run with the ball in hand, along with his leadership skills on the field.
"My strengths are running with the ball and making sure every player stays focused on their job on the field," he said.
Voortrekker have a proud record in their FNB Classic Clash against Witteberg, which is something that Bouwer is intent on extending on Saturday.
Having had a good season to date, the team is settled and ready to face whatever Witteberg throw at them this weekend.
"We had a good, hard pre-season. We are well placed to reach the semis and win the league.
"The team for Saturday is unchanged for the last three games, we’ve got one of last years players sitting out due to injury," he explained.
Bouwer expects Witteberg to kick a lot and make use of their strong pack, and his message to the team this week has been to 'do the small things right and do your job on the field'.
