Captain's Profile: Edmund Rheeder

HS Klerksdorp captain Edmund Rheeder believes his side are in a positive frame of mind ahead of their FNB Classic Clash against HS Lichtenburg on Saturday.

Klerksdorp have had a tough season thus far but have learned from their mistakes and managed to overcome Potch Volkskool in a tough encounter which bodes well leading into the derby encounter for the experienced side.

"There is no doubt that it will be a evenly contested match because the previous matches between the sides have been close and won by the odd point. In the previous three Classic Clashes, both sides have managed to grab a win but we will definitely want to make 2015 a KHS year.

"We have played some really tough matches thus far and we have had to go back and work on the areas of concerns but I think our victory over Potch Volkskool will take this team from strength to strength.

"We are a fairly experienced group of players, with only two youngsters in the side but they have really earned their place in the team and punch above their weight each week," he said.

The 18-year-old No.8 have played at provincial level from a young age and has already had a taste of what it takes to play at a high level when he was selected into the SA schools side in 2014 and had a brief training spell with the SA Sevens training group.

"You learn a lot form other players and coaches and realise there is always room for improvement. The highlight of my career thus far was running out in the number eight SA Under-18 Springbok jersey against Wales, France and England," he added.

The experienced player believes his ability to lead from the front and setting the example for his team helps them achieve success.

"Obviously it is a massive honour to be chosen as the captain of the side, especially when the team is full of leaders and anyone one of them can easily be captain.

"My idea of a captain is someone who leads from the front and sets an example for the rest of the team to follow. For example, you can't expect your team mates to put their bodies on the line if you, as the captain, don't want to. That is not the right example to set.

"Another important aspect of a captain is that he needs to be able to listen to the players because they might just have a better idea or better understanding of a certain situation," he stated.
