Captain's profile: Eduard Fouche

Affies captain Eduard Fouche says that being chosen to lead the first team this year is the highlight of his rugby career.

The Affies flyhalf has played at the Under-13 Craven Week, Grant Khomo Week and at Craven Week for the Blue Bulls last year, but his greatest honour is leading the Witbulle.

"I have been blessed with talent and have been able to experience many great rugby moments, but the one that stands out was when I was chosen to captain my school this year," he said.

Fouche will be pulling the strings as playmaker against the mighty Grey College in Bloemfontein on Saturday, and he believes that his side has what it takes to pick up a victory after tasting defeat on home soil last year.

"As always we are expecting a huge game, both schools will be highly motivated and well prepared. They have an explosive backline and a good pack of forwards.

"We are fielding a full strength side, we don't have any injuries and we have a well balanced team that I believe can be successful on Saturday," he said.

Affies have lost two games this season, and Fouche believes they have given a good account of themselves thus far.

"I believe we have had a good season thus far, we have lost against Paul Roos and SACS. Against Paul Roos we lost focus for 10 minutes and they scored two tries, against SACS we learned a valuable lesson as a group of players," he explained.

As flyhalf Fouche enjoys taking the opposition on and putting his side on the front foot.

"I enjoy the physical aspect of the game, I like taking on the defence and I also like playing alongside creative players and putting them in better positions on the field.

"As captain I give my all in training and always have my heart on the field, I am deeply motivated and focused on the positives," he said.

Fouche hopes to one day make it as a professional player, and intends to study psychology when he leaves school.
