Captain's profile: Elroy Gevelaar
Bellville South captain Elroy Gevelaar says the highlight of his career so far was being named captain of his school's first team.
The fullback will lead his side out in their Classic Clash with Kasselsvlei on Saturday and will be ready for the all-important leadership role.
"It was awesome being named captain because I am a captain of one of our school's best teams.
"I will motivate my players and keep them calm at all times on the field," he said.
Gevelaar has played in the Wildelawer Rugby Festival, which he says was one of the biggest tournaments he has been involved in.
An example of his experience on the rugby field can be found in the message he gave to his team ahead of this weekend's clash.
"To trust in our game and that we should stick to our defensive plan because if our defence is solid we will have the game in our hands,” he added.
The 19-year-old says his strengths as a player are his defence and attack with a good kicking game as well. He believes his team has the right mix to avenge last season's loss.
"It is a good team. We have a lot of experienced players, but we also have some young players as well.
Gevelaar believes this year's Classic Clash is one not be missed.
"We are two strong schools and we always deliver a great game of rugby. It is going to be a very hard game,' he said.
Gevelaar's main object is to pass Grade 12 this year and to study further. He also wants to try and take his rugby to another level in the future.
