Captain's profile: Johan Geldenhuys

Upington claimed that match, played at Duineveld, by a narrow margin and Geldenhuys will be looking to continue the trend of picking up big victories this season.

"Interjol week is always a massive week and the tradition between the schools goes back a very long time. They [Upington] got the better of us in 2015 in what was a nail biting encounter.

"I don't expect this match to be any different and I know we have the squad to get our revenge. We are represented by quite a number of matriculants but our Grade 11 players are no slouches and can carry their own weight.

"We have had a few injuries this year but our depth is shining through. We know they are a very good team and it's definitely going to be a tough battle. They will give it their all because they are playing at home but we are up for it.

"We have overcome the likes of Marlow and Louis Botha this year and that has contributed to us winning seven of our nine matches. One of the matches we lost was to Diamantveld but that was only by sevens points. So we are a team for the big occasion," Geldenhuys said.

The No.8 received news that he will be part of the final group representing Griquas Country Districts at the 2016 Craven Week and that good news should do wonders for his confidence heading into this crucial Classic Clash.

"I feel really honoured to be selected for that team but I am just as proud to be Duineveld's captain, which is the highlight of my career thus far. I aim to be an example for the team because, as a captain, you can't expect your team to do more than you.

"That has been the one thing that keeps us going as a team. Everyone knows and understands their role and are willing to work for each other. We just need to stick to what we have done during the season because it has been working for us.

"This is one of those games where you need to be relaxed during the game but give everything for your school at the same time," he added.

Geldenhuys will be attending the University of Stellenbosch to take up a BSc degree and knows he will need to work his way through the ranks in order to represent Maties in the NFB Varsity Cup one day.
