Captain's profile: Johan Rossouw
Hoërskool Oudtshoorn, better known as Struisies, have had a strong season. With 10 victories to date, they go into the match with a huge amount of confidence. But the hosts realise an Classic Clash against the old foe is never a walk in the park.
"It is always a big clash when we meet. Even though the history states that they are more successful based on past victories, we are going into this match in pursuit of victory.
"Both teams have had really good seasons and they will come at us hard, so I anticipate a tough match," Rossouw said.
The Struisies-Kwagga rivalry is nothing new, having been in existence for more than 50 years.
In the past, this match would have been easily swung in the hosts’ favour, however recent history has shown that Outeniqua have had the upper-hand on their opponents.
Going down 12-70 in the 2015 FNB Classic Clash, the team from Oudsthoorn hope to eclipse that and regain bragging rights.
"Our preparation for Classic Clash started in the beginning of the season. There are a few injuries to our first choice players, but the young replacements have loads of talent.
"Captaining these men is a huge honour and great responsibility," the skipper added.
Rossouw’s strengths as a player is what motivates Struisies, he brings a sense of calmness to the side that is rare at school level.
The captain realises, along with the team, that they have to be more focused and vigilant.
"Saturday we have to play as one, think as one and succeed as one. We have to kill them with success and bury them with a smile," he stated.
With a good head on shoulders and having already been a Tony Stoops tournament winner, this young man’s future plans is to attend the Stellenbosch Rugby Academy for three years.
