Captain's profile: Ryan Johst

Ryan Johst will be leading his Linden troops onto the field when they take on Hoerskool Randburg in a Classic Clash on Saturday.

Johst is enjoying his second year in the first XV, and brings a wealth of experience having represented the Golden Lions at Grant Khomo week and for the Under-18 Acadamy side.

"It was an experience to play alongside other schools," said Johst.

Johst, who plays inside centre, highlights his Grant Khomo selection as the fondest memory so far in his career.

The skipper, who stands in at 184cm and weighs 94kg, says it is a privilege to be named captain for his team.

"It is really just a title, but a privilege," he humbly said.

Johst's strengths as a captain are being able to assist his teammates when necessary and remaining positive at all cost.

Linden's team for Saturday is a mix of experience and youth but Johst ensures that they play well as a team. However although they have had positive results this season, Johst feels the team has not performed to expectations yet.

The captain is expecting a tough encounter on Saturday.

"Randburg is always hard, and they play good rugby, so I know we will have to work hard to get good results."

Johst's message to his team is: "It's just another game and do not let the week building up tap your energy"

Johst plans to head to University in the future and continue playing rugby.
