Drostdy stun Oakdale, Paul Roos edge SACS
WEEKEND WRAP: Drostdy edged a more fancied Oakdale outfit in Worcester on Saturday while Paul Roos scored in the final play to deny SACS a famous win in Newlands.
Drostdy have had a good season to date, winning eight of their 10 matches, and claiming the scalps of Wynberg, EG Jansen and Selborne.
On Saturday, the Donkies made yet another statement when they beat Oakdale 31-24 in Worcester.
Oakdale have been one of South Africa’s leading teams in recent seasons, but have been less convincing in 2026, especially outside of Riversdale.
Elsewhere, two of the other top dogs managed to avoid defeat in fixtures staged in Newlands and Bellville.
SACS appeared to be on course for a famous victory against Paul Roos, thanks to the attacking and goal-kicking contributions of flyhalf Jake Dave, who scored 24 points on the day.
But the Maroon Machine showed their mettle at the death, scoring from close range in the last play of the game to secure a thrilling 38-34 win.
Stellenberg went into the clash against Outeniqua as favourites but were made to fight for a 26-21 win in Bellville.
The result extends the Jade Brigade’s winning run at home to nine matches in 2026 – and bolsters their status as one of the best teams in the country.
In other Western Cape fixtures, Paarl Gimnasium punished Rondebosch 52-24 while Paarl Boys smashed Durbanville 56-7.
Both Paarl juggernauts have hit form after a lengthy mid-year break, and both will head into the big derby at Faure Street Stadium on August 1 with confidence and momentum.
The interprovincial clashes in KwaZulu-Natal served up some interesting results, with Jeppe holding Durban High School to a 21-21 draw, and Affies thumping Maritzburg College 40-12.
Grey College hammered the touring side Harrow 95-0, while Diamantveld crushed Goudveld 73-0.
The Noordvaal Cup play-off race has been particularly tight this season, and on Saturday, Monument improved their chances of a top-two finish when they beat Middelburg 68-42.
The other two play-off spots are still up for grabs, and Waterkloof boosted their chances of finishing ahead of Noordheuwel, after they claimed a 34-24 win over EG Jansen and Noordhewuel lost 42-45 to Menlopark at the weekend.
Down in the Eastern Cape, Dale and Graeme College continued their fine form, scoring substantial wins against Ooskus Gim and Pearson respectively.
The teams will meet in Makhanda this coming weekend in a match that could determine who finishes as the leading team in the region.
