Eldo win great match
The annual inter-schools match, an FNB Classic Clash, between Zwartkop and Eldoraigne was action-packed with excitement and intensity as both teams gave it their all for 70-minutes. Eldoraigne were the eventual winners, 33-8.
The scoreboard was opened by Zwartkop’s Steward Anderson after about 20 minutes into the match putting three points on the board in the form of a penalty. With less than 10 minutes left to the break Eldoraigne scored a fortunate try after charging down a clearance kick by fly half Johan Kleinhans. The visitors ran in another well worked try to gain a handy 14-3 lead at the break.
After the break, the home team showing tremendous heart on defence, managed to throw the visitors off their stride for a while forcing them into mistakes. Eldoraigne dug deep and managed to score two more tries. The first try came from a Zwartkop clearance kick that did not go into touch and the second one from a well-rehearsed long distance line-out maul. Vian de Beer, the home team’s right wing, crossed the try line after sustained pressure, making it 26-8 to Eldoraigne. With a few minutes left on the clock, Eldoraigne sealed a deserved victory by scoring a try after a quick tap penalty five metres out.
Although convincingly won by Eldoraigne, it was an excellent game of rugby which kept the spectators enthralled throughout.
