Ermelo captain - Danie Kruger
The history of this Mpumalanga FNB Classic Clash is something that favour Danie Kruger's team, but that does not mean he is taking Hoogenhout lightly.
Kruger, now in his second year of first team rugby, will always fondly remember his first run out for the top team at Ermelo.
"I had the privilege to play for our school’s first team in grade 11," he said.
"The first game was special and I will never forget it.
"It will always be a highlight of my rugby career."
Now as captain of the first team Kruger has grown his play as a quality fullback as well as within his leadership capacity.
He is known for his leadership within the team as well as his great communication.
"is a great honour [to be named captain]," he added.
"Only a few boys get the opportunity to captain a school’s first rugby team."
Ermelo's season thus far has been up and down, but this could be due to this medium sized school playing amongst some of the bigger schools within the Tuks league.
Ermelo have had the upper hand of rivals Hoogenhout of recent, and over all in the history of this FNB Classic Clash: in 122 games Ermelo have won 76 and Hoogenhout 36 – with 10 draws.
Kruger is not letting these statistics lower his guard, he knows that they will throw everything at them come Saturday.
In preparation Kruger has looked to his team to work hard in practice.
"Focus and work hard during our preparation time. Perfect practice makes perfect," he concluded.
