FNB's Worcester Classic

The strongest rugby schools in Worcester over the mountains on the fringe of the Karroo are HTS  Drostdy and Worcester Gimnasium, and they meet in the FNB Classic Clash on Saturday – the Donkeys against the Bosvarke – names they call themselves.

In normal years Drostdy are the stronger of these two sides but this is not a normal year for Boland schools who seem to have fallen off greatly.

Results this Year

Worcester Gim have won once in five matches and that was over Westering of Port Elizabeth. Drostdy have played eight times and won just twice – against Charlie Hofmeyr of Ceres and Krugersdorp High.

Drostdy have had much the tougher fixtures and have lost to Stellenberg, Potch Gimmies, Outeniqua, Framesby, Selborne and a Wildeklawer XV chosen from schools in the Western Cape who do not get much of a chance to go to Festivals. Drostdy would be expected to do much better than that.

Worcester Gim have lost to Augsburg, Rondebosch, Bellville South and Swartland.

In last year's Boland side at Craven Week, Drostdy had four players, Worcester Gim one. None of those five players are at school this year.

Last year Worcester Gim hosted the match which Drostdy won 31-10. Flyhalf Wynand Roets, lock and captain Willem Augustyn and props Robert Hunt and Ruan Marais, are back in the side whose strength is in their strong, mobile pack.
