Garsfontein clinch top spot, Grey hammer Kwaggas
WRAP: Garsfontein finished the Noordvaal Cup league phase in pole position while Grey College claimed a resounding win against Outeniqua this past Saturday.
Garsfontein edged one step closer to a fourth-consecutive Noordvaal Cup title when they thumped EG Jansen 76-5 in Pretoria on Saturday.
As a result of the recent bonus-point victory, Garsies have finished at the head of the league standings and will head into the semi-finals as the tournament’s top seed.
Monument rounded off an impressive league campaign with a 40-36 win over Waterkloof in Krugersdorp – but finished three points behind Garsfontein in the standings.
Meanwhile, Noordheuwel booked their place in the playoffs via a 31-14 win over Middelburg, and Klofies finished fourth in the league.
In the Free State, Grey College delivered another convincing performance to beat a plucky Outeniqua side 45-17.
Since losing to Affies in May, the boys from Bloem have scored 40 or more points against each of their opponents.
They also hammered Harrow 95-0 and thrashed Grey High 59-26 in recent weeks, and will take some momentum into next week’s showdown against Paul Roos in Stellenbosch.

The Maroon Machine enjoyed a bye this past weekend, and the biggest clash in the Winelands region was staged between Boland Landbou and Oakdale.
The hosts claimed a significant 40-36 win over Oakdale, who finished a largely disappointing season with a record of six wins, one draw, and seven losses.
In KwaZulu-Natal, Maritzburg College rounded off their campaign with a 64-7 win over Glenwood, while Graeme extended their unbeaten run to 11 games when they beat Queens 31-28 on
Saturday.
Affies hammered Pretoria Boys 45-18 to secure their eighth straight win, and end their season with a record of 12 wins in 16 games.
While Affies claimed a monumental win against Grey College, they lost to other top dogs such as Paarl Gim, Paul Roos and Garsfontein – and sustained a shock loss to Michaelhouse at the Pretoria Boys High Festival in April.
DHS may also have mixed feelings after their recent 22-12 win over KES in Johannesburg. The Durban outfit impressed over the 2024 and 2025 seasons, but has been less consistent in 2026 – as their final record of nine wins, one draw and four losses suggests.
