General de Beer won the battle
The Affie vs Klofie rugby battle always attracts a lot of interest. Once again the pavilion and the surrounding grounds were packed with spectators as Waterkloof, playing at home, won 38-21.
After a dismal start this season Waterkloof came for business against Affies, this weekend. Klofies had the home turf advantage and used it well. Within the first five minutes Waterkloof’s JP Snyman scored the first try and Tinus de Beer converted. Two minutes later Affies were penalised and flyhalf Tinus de Beer converted again making the score 10-0 in the first 7 minutes.
This try formed the platform for the rest of the match. Klofies grew in confidence but it was flyhalf Tinus de Beer that stood out amongst the rest, with three clean breaks resulting in two tries and nearly a third.
Waterkloof never stopped attacking and after 10 minutes were 13-0 ahead. Affies for a brief period in the first half, when trailing 13-0, they rallied with a good try from Rohan Roelofse, but could not convert.
The half-time score was 28 Waterkloof 8 Affies.
Affies came back with a vengeance in the second half and made good use of possession. A penalty against Waterkloof was easily converted by Janco Booysen changing the score to 28 Klofies, 11 Affies.
Affies were penalised and Klofie Tinus de Beer stretched Waterkloof’s lead to 31. But then Affies started to dominate the second half and Rohan Roelofse scored for Affies. At this stage the score was Klofies 31 and Affies 18. Another penalty against Waterkloof saw Affies closing the gap to 31-21. The last try went to Klofie Juandré Michau and Tinus converted again making the final score 38-21 to Klofies.
