Gimmies, Garsies hammer rivals to strengthen claim for top spot
WRAP: Paarl Gim and Garsfontein scored more than 60 points against their regional rivals while Hudson Park edged Dale College.
The big schoolboy matches staged in Paarl and Krugersdorp this past Saturday did not pan out as expected.
Gimmies went into the clash against Paul Roos as favourites, but a far tighter contest was expected.

In the end, Pieter Rossouw’s charges romped to a 68-22 victory on the JA Kriel field.
Paul Roos went into the match with a record of 12 wins in 13 games and were expected to push Gimmies close.
There have been some exceptionally tight battles between these two juggernauts over the years, with Paul Roos winning by six points in 2024, and Gimmies by seven in 2025.
The big question in the lead-up to the 2026 showdown was whether Paul Roos could live with Gimmies’ tempo on attack.
As the final scoreline suggests, Paul Roos failed that test, while Gimmies racked up yet another big score.
Gimmies have now scored 713 points in 14 games – and it’s worth noting how they have thumped some of the other leading contenders for the No.1 ranking.
Gimmies thrashed Affies 51-24 in Pretoria before securing a 29-14 win over Grey College at home.
They beat Oakdale 49-13 in Riversdale last week, before hammering Paul Roos by 46 points in the marquee clash in Paarl.
Meanwhile, Stellenberg thumped Bishops 59-5 on Saturday to bolster their own 2026 record – 13 wins from 15.
Garsfontein claimed their 11th win in 13 matches when they pummelled Monument 61-32.
Like Paul Roos, Monument have built up some momentum in recent weeks – winning 10 matches in a row – and were expected to push Garsfontein close in a key Noordvaal Cup fixture.
But on the day, Garsies claimed a big win to boost their chances of finishing first in the Noordvaal Cup standings.
Elsewhere, Hudson Park edged Dale College 27-26 in a result that will surprise many in the Eastern Cape.
Dale have been one of the most consistent teams in the region this season, winning their last eight matches.
Paarl Boys rebounded from an underwhelming performance at SACS to claim a more convincing 49-21 win at Boland Lanbou.
Hilton beat Northwood 43-32 to extend their unbeaten run at home, while Westville thumped Michaelhouse 52-19.
Up in the capital, Pretoria Boys bounced back from a heavy defeat to Michaelhouse to edge Jeppe 37-33.
