Glenwood crowned champs at DHS sevens
Glenwood’s first two pool games were played on Friday afternoon September 9, playing against the likes of a KZN Coaches Invitational team and Maritzburg College.
Glenwood beat a very talented KZN Coaches Invitational side by 29 – 0 and then later beating Maritzburg College 32 – 5 in rainy conditions. The boys gained confidence from these two games and set themselves at the top of their pool on Saturday.
Saturday morning saw Glenwood take on a DHS Invitational team. A slow start to the first game of the morning but was won convincingly by Glenwood 45 – 0 in the end.
Topping their pool with three out of three wins saw Glenwood take on Westville B in the Cup quarterfinal to be victorious by 32 – 0.
Then, into the semifinal fixture that everyone said should be the final, Glenwood took on a DHS A side that have won several tournaments this season. DHS draw first blood to lead 0-5.
Glenwood defended like champions and held DHS A scoreless for the remainder of the match. Glenwood worked hard on attack and managed to cross over the white line twice to beat DHS A 12-5.
The Glenwood boys knew that if they wanted to win the tournament they had to beat DHS B. In a physical encounter Glenwood took on the DHS B side and won by 26-12 to be victorious champions.
The Tournament which comprised out of 16 teams that were held over two days was a huge success with all the feedback received being incredibly positive.

The Plate was won by Westville Boys' High, who beat Maritzburg College 17-12 in the Plate Final.
The Bowl was won by KZN Select who beat Hilton College 41-28 in the Bowl Final.
And the Shield was won by Hoerskool Bergvlam who beat the DHS Invitation team 36-0 in the Shield Final.
