Glenwood far too good for Kearsney

Glenwood were hosts to Kearsney on Saturday which did not prevent them from giving their visitors a pasting. Poor Kearsney, they ended their season on an unhappy note, conceding 130 points in their last two matches. Glenwood won 85-13.

The final round of fixtures for the second term saw Glenwood play host to Kearsney at the UKZN rugby grounds. Having lost to the visitors two years in a row, the Glenwood team would have been keen to get back to winning ways.

Kearsney started well and put the home team under some serious pressure in the opening couple of minutes. Kearsney, however, were not able to sustain this pressure as Glenwood broke the line at ease and scored the first of their 12 tries.

With the bulk share of possession and territory, the home team capitalised on their advantage and made Kearsney pay for any mistake that they made.

Glenwood scored tries through Donovan du Randt, who scored a hat trick, Morné Joubert (2), Curtis Jonas, Sphamandla Ngcobo, Marco Palvie (2), James Venter, Kwazi Khanyile d Ilunga  Mukendi.

Curtis Jonas has an incredible day with the boot converting 11 of the 12 tries as well as slotting a penalty. This, added to his try, took his personal tally on the day to 30 points.

Credit must be given to a Kearsney side that showed great attitude and tenacity, but on the day Glenwood were just too strong and dominated almost all aspects of the game. With a 70 minute performance that was clinical and direct, Glenwood finished the game with a convincing 85-13 lead.
