Graeme dominate in Graaff-Reinet
The rugby kicked off as always with the under-9 A side playing barefoot rugby on a very crisp morning. They are a tough group though and managed to stay as clinical as always winning 49-10.
The Graeme first XV continued to build on that great start with a remarkable win.
Graeme did not have much possession in the first half, but they managed to score three tries and looked dangerous every time that got their hands on the ball.
Two of the tries were converted by Sivu Ngqiyaza, to bring their half-time tally up to 19.
The Union backline looked very capable of breaking the defensive line, but the Graeme defence has been brilliant all season. Cameron Amos scored two tries as he had yet another strong performance at scrumhalf.
Union High managed a penalty and a try of their own to bring their tally up to 8 points at half time.
Graeme led 19-8 at the break but would’ve been frustrated at the lack of possession, which continued at the start of the 2nd half.
That being said there were moments of individual brilliance as Graeme looked dangerous whenever they had the ball in hand. In fact, they seemed to score a try whenever they managed to get decent ball, which led to Graeme scoring another four tries in the second half. Sivu Ngqiyaza converted two of the tries.
Special mention must be made of the last try where Eldrico Kivitts scored from his own 22m line, after beating numerous defenders on his way to a superb individual effort.
Union High converted two penalties and scored a try of their own in the second half.
Graeme will feel they were not at their best on the day, but they had too much firepower for Union and will be happy to end the term with a 43-19 victory.
They will look forward to the remaining fixtures against Pearson, Kingswood and Muir in the third term.
