Graeme down Pearson in PE
The match-up is always is always a tough and enjoyable fixture.
Pearson started the day well, winning most of the junior matches, as the schools battled out closely contested games. Interestingly, Graeme managed to turn this around in the senior teams, which meant that the day was quite evenly split in the end.
The Graeme 1st XV didn’t hit their straps on the day, but managed to get home winning their encounter 24-15. Both schools were playing their first game back after the holidays and it showed in a contest that never gained momentum as was error ridden.
Pearson started the game with a bang as they scored from the kick-off. But Graeme fought back to score three converted tries of their own in the first half. Pearson scored another try and managed a penalty to make the half-time score 21-15.
In the second half Graeme seemed to dominate territory and possession, but could not capitalise in the red zone as they made countless errors with ball in hand. They finally managed a penalty with five minutes left to ensure a 24-15 victory. Although Graeme would be frustrated at the level of their performance they showed character to win when they were not at their best. Pearson must also be commended for fighting bravely till the end.
Next up for Graeme is an exciting mid-week fixture, as they meet Kingswood in the local derby on Wednesday. The 1st XV kicked off at 17.15 in what is always a keenly contested fixture. There should be some great battles in evenly contested games across the board.
