Graeme win tussle with Muir

A more composed Graeme ran out victors 21-14 in Muir’s final fixture for the 2014 season. Hosts Graeme narrowly led 10-7 at the break.

The hosts opened the scoring with a penalty after an infringement by the College. Graeme later extended their lead with a converted try. Muir would not be outdone and after continuous pressure forced an error. Captain and centreLunathi Nxele tapped quickly and crossed the line. Fullback Ruben de Vos kicked the conversions to narrow Graeme’s lead.

The second half was more exciting when both teams had ball in hand. Graeme extended their lead through a penalty and a try.

De Vos saw a gap next to a ruck and with his pace and quick feet put the ball down under the sticks for a converted try which he kicked.

Graeme sealed victory with a penalty minutes before the final whistle.

Flank Mzi Goba yet again had a solid game forcing turnovers and penalties for the team. Wing Xolela Daniels worked hard off the wing and looked for work to get into the game. Yet again centre pairing of Lunathi Nxele and Mihlali Nobomvu worked well to cross the advantage line on attack and close down the opposition backline when defending their channel.
