Grey Host Queen's

Busloads of Queenians will descend from their mountain home to the coast at Port Elizabeth for their annual meeting with Grey High.

There will be varied activities – golf, angling, squash chess, debating in three divisions, cross country and hockey. And there will be 21 hockey matches, culminating with the 1st XV match at half past three in the afternoon.

It is a huge logistical endeavour by the two great schools.

These 1st XVs are fairly evenly matched – both in the group just below the FNB Top 20.

This Season's Results

Grey have played eight matches, winning six. The two that they lost were both against teams ranked in the Top 20, the only such teams Grey have played.

Queen's have played 10 matches, winning eight. The two that they lost were both against teams ranked in the Top 20, the only such teams Grey have played.

They have only one opponent in common – Pearson whom they both beat. Grey won 25-5, Queen's 41-7.

Last weekend Grey had a bye while Queen's beat Graeme 36-0 in Grahamstown.

Achievers

Grey have achieved greatly in this year's Craven Week side. They have, at flyhalf, Curwin Bosch, who played for South African schools last year, a talented player who can control a match. They also have a wonderful attacking back in Keanu Vers who played for SA Schools last year but is no longer Under-18 and so not eligible for Craven Week this year.

In total Grey have nine players in this year's Craven Week side, including the captain, Michael de Marco, and another six in the Academy Week side

Grey's Craven Week players are Sihle Njezula, Mohamed Connelly, Curwin Bosch, Kwezi Mafu, Michael de Marco, Kamva Dilima, Siwe Masosiwe, Lubabalo Dobela and Khanyo Mafunda.

Grey's Academy Week players are Nicky Ferreira, Aya Oliphant, Matthew Lawson, Apiwe Febana, Tiaan Coetzee and Dylan Barendse.

The Border teams have not yet been chosen but Queen's players under consideration could be Simphiwe Matanzima, Bulela Sotyelelwa and Yaw Penxe.

Experience

Curwin Bosch and Keanu Vers are obviously the most experienced players in the two teams.

Queen's have just one player back from last year's team – scrumhalf Raegan Oranje, who is this year's captain.
