Grey vs Grey in PE

Both schools have a common founder in Sir George Grey in the 1850s when he was governor of the Cape, a man popular with Boer and Brit. Both are great schools and both play excellent rugby.

Down the years Grey Bloem, as they are colloquially known, have had the better of contests between the two and in their status in schools rugby in South Africa. But then it was only in 2014 that Grey PE last won, the last time they played at home. In fact in the last few years Grey Bloem has lost just a little of its aura of invincibility.

Both teams are ranked on the FNB Top 20 – Grey Bloem currently fourth and Grey PE currently ninth, which is no great divide.

Grey Bloem have played 12, won 11 and lost only to Paarl Boys' High. Grey PE have won 10 of their 13 matches, losing to Paul Roos, Dale and – huge surprise – Daniël Pienaar.
