Kearsney ended second in the group, which meant they played College A, winner of their group, in the quarterfinals. It was a close encounter but, with two minutes to go, Kearsney changed gear and beat the hosts 29-17.

Kearsney’s semifinal was against Northwood A and, after a few nervous moments and resolute defence, Kearsney won 21-19.

With only five minutes to recover after their semifinal match, Kearsney again played St Charles in the final. They dug deep and showed tremendous tenacity, beating a highly motivated St Charles team 26-12.

Meanwhile Kearsney’s B team managed a convincing 33-0 win against Carter High in their first group stage match. In their second match, they fought hard against Northwood A but lost 26-14. They won their last group match against a Barbarian side convincingly 42-7 to go through to the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinal was against a strong Hilton A team who won 26-14.
