Klerksdorp captain - Almeru van Wyk
Klerksdorp skipper Almeru van Wyk will lead out an experienced and confident Klerksdorp side in their FNB Classic Clash with Lichtenburg.
Van Wyk's side features nine Matrics and eight players who were part of the team that beat Lichtenburg last year, but he insists they will be taking nothing for granted against what will be a fired-up Lichtenburg side.
"We don’t under estimate them. They will do their best. They play with a fixed pattern and it will not be an easy game.
"We need to stay focused and to stay humble. All of us must remember what rugby stands for. Discipline and hard work and only then the winning will come," he said.
The all-action flank was vice captain of the Leopards at Grant Khomo week in Under-16 which he describes as 'a life changing experience', so he is no stranger to the leadership role.
Klerksdorp have had a tough start to their season, but Van Wyk believes that they have acquitted themselves well.
"The season so far was very tough. We played in the TUKS Super 16 tournament against the best teams in the region (Gauteng, North West, Mpumalanga and even Polokwane). KHS ended 12th in the tournament," he said.
The Klerksdorp captain plans to study Mechanical Engineering at NWU next year and says that being able to lead the first team this year is an honour.
"I am proud and honoured to be the captain of our first rugby team, especially playing with my team mates who have a passion for rugby and being proud of our school," he said.
