Landboudal Host Diamantveld

Before the British coveted the diamond mines and changed the map, Griqualand West was a part of the Free State, which means that Diamantveld of Griqualand West are not making a great move when they go across to Jacobsdal in the Free State to play the agricultural school whose players are eligible for Griquas.

In South Africa there are several agricultural schools which perform far, far more successfully than their numbers suggest – Oakdale, Marlow, Boland Landbou, Augsburg, Weston, Bekker, Martin Oosthuizen, Winterberg, Hendrik Potgieter, Northern Cape of Jan Kempdorp and Landboudal which is really Hoër Landbouskool Jacobsdal, its name concertinaed to Landboudal.

If the 1st XV match is anything like last year's fixture it should be a very entertaining match. Diamantveld won 27-22 in a close encounter.

Apart from the rugby there will be netball and hockey matches, and several reunions will be taking place.

Season so Far

Landboudal have played 11 matches, winning six and losing five.

Diamantveld have played 11 matches winning five, drawing two and losing four.

Diamantveld's opponents have been generally of a higher calibre than those of Landboudal. They have played four teams who are on the FNB Top 20 while Lanties have played only one. Of their four Diamantveld drew with Grey Bloem and Selborne, losing to Paarl Boys' High and Oakdale.

Prop Simbulele Mnweba, nicknamed Snowball, was at the Academy week while Willem Stoltz and Conradt Blaauw were at the Grant Khomo Week.
