Landboudal's Rugby in 2014
Landboudal is a portmanteau name for Hoër Landbouskool Jacobsdal, a school in the Southern Free State. It reviews its season.
The school started as a trade school in 1918, became a high school with an agricultural section and then in 1962 the agricultural section became a school in its own right – Hoër Landbouskool Jacobsdal.
It is a small school of some 180 boys but, as with Marlow, Oakdale and Boland Landbou, it punches well above it weight and is unafraid to play against any other school.
Landboudal had a very good year playing 16 matches, winning 12, losing three and drawing one. The year culminated in Landboudal's becoming the first team to successfully defend their crown as Kovsie Central Region (Cheetahs, Griffons and Griquas) Irawa champions and were also crowned as the Griquas Big Schools champions for 2014.
The talents of our players were recognised by the provincial and national selectors as the following players were selected to represent Griquas at the National Weeks:
Craven Week: Teubes Brits, FC Swart
Academy Week: Simbulele Mnweba
Grant Khomo Week: Willem Scholtz, Conradt Blaauw, Herman Schreuder
Under-16 Valke Week: Ferreira Strauss, Francois Marais, CA Menezes, Heinrich van Zyl, JL Pretorius
Under-19 Puk Week: Guiliaume Oberholster, Erick Reinecke, Katlego Mabaleng, André Cornelissen
SA Schools Trials: Lock Teubes Brits was one of 55 players chosen to participate in the final SA Schools trials after a very successful Craven Week.
