Lights on for Lichtenburg
In an FNB Classic Clash on Saturday Hoërskool Lichtenburg beat Hoërskool Klerksdorp 13-9 at the Fanus Booysen Sportterrein in Lichtenburg. It was a good day for the hosts, winning eight out of nine matches.
The first team match on Saturday against our rivals Klerksdorp was even more physical and intense than anticipated. The match ended in a nail-biting finish with Lichtenburg defending their own try-line for the last five minutes. The score ended 13-9 in Lichtenburg’s favour.
The Lichtenburg forwards stood up vary bravely in the scrums and the rucks and mauls. Klerksdorp had the bigger forwards and came in to the match with a reputation of dominating teams in scrums and rucks. This was not the case on Saturday and I believe that was a big turning point in the match. The Lichtenburg line-out struggled during the game and gave some of that forward domination back to Klerksdorp.
I think Lichtenburg took all their opportunities better and converted when they had opportunities in the scoring zone of the opposition. That was highlighted by a well struck drop-goal in the second half what turned out vital, as it forced Klerksdorp to go for a try instead of a penalties shot in the last 10 minutes.
In 2013 Klerksdorp won 32-24 .
