REVIEW: Monument hammered Waterkloof in the Noordvaal Cup title on Saturday, while SACS stunned Wynberg in Cape Town.

Waterkloof made a statement when they beat Garsfontein 27-26 in a tense Noordvaal Cup semifinal staged in Pretoria on Tuesday night.

The result ended Garsfontein’s three-year reign as Noordvaal Cup champions, and provided Klofies with the opportunity to end their season with silverware.

Meanwhile, Monument beat Noordheuwel 60-52 in the other semifinal.

Monnas may have celebrated further after learning that Klofies had knocked out the title favourites and that the decider would be staged in Krugersdorp rather than in Pretoria.

There was a short turnaround between the semifinal and final, and in the end, Monument emerged with a convincing 52-22 victory on Saturday.

While the title will mean a great deal, coach Jannie du Plessis may be proud of the fact that Monument were among the most consistent teams in the country in 2026.

Saturday’s result ensured that Monnas finished 2026 with an outstanding record of 16 wins in 20 matches – and 15 in the last 16.

In other Noordvaal tournament action, Zwartkop beat Nelspruit to secure the Plate, while Pietersberg downed Marais Viljoen to win the Shield.

Down in Cape Town’s southern suburbs, SACS beat Wynberg 44-29 at De Villiers Field to level the derby series 1-1 – and to end their season on a high.

Further down the road, Rondebosch bossed Bishops to claim a 29-15 victory and secure a second-straight win over their arch-rivals in 2026.

While the season is over, plans for the 2027 schedule are already underway.

This past week, it was confirmed that Affies will host the Noord Suid festival again in 2027, with Grey High and Hilton among the new additions. The five-day tournament will kick off on March 19.

Meanwhile, the Easter festival at KES will double as a 125th anniversary celebration for the Joburg institution.
