Marais Viljoen end losing streak

Marais Viljoen ended a five-year losing streak in emphatic fashion when they thrashed Florida 40-14 in a FNB Classic Clash on Saturday.

The massive loss added insult to injury for Florida – coming off the back of a 7-110 loss at the hands of Monument – as they conceded six tries and only managed to score one of their own.

Two first half tries by scrumhalf Migael du Plessis and lock Thys Mulder, both converted by fullback Johnathan Muller, saw the home side take a slender 14-6 lead into the half-time break after Florida slotted two penalties of their own to keep themselves in the encounter.

It was one-way traffic in the second half as Ruan Behr, Dawie Botha and a Johan Duncan brace saw the home side run in four tries with Muller adding a further three conversions with his boot.

There was some consolation for Florida though as they scored a try of their own while slotting another penalty as they suffered a 26-point loss at the hands of their rivals.
