Maties Schools Tournament Starts
There will be five matches on Saturday, three on Danie Craven Stadium and two on the B Field.
The tournament's predecessor was Die Burger Competition for High Schools. Last year it was centred at Danie Craven Stadium. Then there were knock-out rounds in the four "Burger" provinces – Western Province, Boland, South Western Districts and Eastern Province.
This year the 10 teams have been invited to take part – Stellenbosch High from Western Province, Die Brandwag from Eastern Province and the other eight from the Boland – Worcester Gimnasium, New Orleans, Klein Nederburg, Groenberg, Augsburg, Overberg, Vredendal and Drostdy of Worcester.
The university sees the tournament as a way of attracting school boys to the university.
