Michaelhouse end Hilton drought
WRAP: Michaelhouse claimed a rare win against Hilton to level the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands series and finish their season on a high.
While Michaelhouse have blown hot and cold over the past three months – winning eight of their 13 matches – they have claimed the prize scalps of Northwood, Jeppe and Affies.
This past Saturday, Marco Engelbrecht’s side beat Hilton 20-16 at Michaelhouse to level the Midlands series – after Hilton won the first derby of the season.
The recent result marks Michaelhouse’s first win against Hilton since 2024, and their first derby victory at Michaelhouse since 2015.
For Hilton, it was disappointing end to what’s been an outstanding season.
Brad Macleod-Henderson’s charges won 11 of their 13 matches – claiming notable wins against Northwood, Westville, Durban High School and Nudgee College from Australia.
Regardless of the recent result at Michaelhouse, they will finish 2026 as KZN’s best team within the province.
Elsewhere, Kearsney continued their resurgence when they handed St Albans a 94-10 hiding in Pretoria.
Selborne were just as dominant in their 85-7 demolition of Stirling down in the Eastern Cape, while Graeme made a statement when they beat Union 51-10 – after losing to the same side in 2025.
The latter result sees Graeme boosting their record to 12 wins in 14 matches (a run that includes a draw), and they should go into the showdown with Dale College on 1 August with confidence.
That said, Dale will have reason to believe they can finish 2026 as the leading team in the Eastern Cape, after winning 13 of their 16 matches.
Dale recently won 42-36 at St Andrews.
