Muir battle on
A fighting Muir College stuck it out against a physical Brandwag to have a final score of 12-22 in favour of the hosts, Brandwag. Muir trailed 5-22 at the break.
Brandwag put a few phases together, sucking in the Colleges’ defence, and scored a converted try to take the lead. A mistake by Muir saw Brandwag capitalise and run in anther converted try.
This did not dampen the College boys' spirits but fuelled their desire to hit back. After putting a few phases together and being patient captain Lunathi Nxele shrugged off defenders and crossed the line to put Muir on the scoreboard.
Brandwag extended their lead by kicking a penalty and running in a try.
The second-half saw a more determined College side run on. Brandwag attacked the Muir line but the College was sound on defence and did not allow the hosts to cross the line. Yomelela Keswa scored Muir’s second try of the game off a set-phase and well-worked backline move. Fullback Luphelo Miggels kicked the conversion. This spurred the College side on but both sides defended well to keep their opposition out.
The forwards played well as a unit to give their backs go forward ball to attack with. Lock Ancel Velkers, flank Ntsika Fisanti and eighthman Sipelela Latola did well in the tight and loose phases of play.
Captain and centre Lunathi Nxele led from the front and was well supported by centre partner Sicelo Tole and flyhalf Yomelela Keswa.
