Oceania Opening Postponed

Day 1 of the Oceania Rugby Junior Championship was scheduled to start on Friday, 1 May 2015, but it has been put off to the next day.

It's a case more common in cricket – rain no play. The rain on the Gold Coast where the tournament is taking place, is heavy and the wind gale-force.

The four countries taking part – New Zealand, Japan, Samoa and hosts Australia, all agreed to the postponement top Saturday, 2 May 2015.

Wayne Schutte, the Tournament Coordinator at Federation Oceania Rugby Unions, made the obvious point that player safety was an important concern, saying: “Naturally we are disappointed that there will be no games today, but player welfare must always be our highest priority."

The revised schedule for 2 May 2015

13.00: Japan vs New Zealand

15.00: Australia vs Samoa
