Oudtshoorn captain - JP du Plessis

JP du Plessis will be hoping that home ground advantage will be the thing that turns the tide for Oudtshoorn as they tackle Outeniqua in their Classic Clash.

It was in 2010 when Oudtshoorn last tasted victory against the Kwaggas and then, like this weekend, it was with home ground advantage.

Du Plessis is a proud captain that tries to motivate his players by leading by example, he has gained some good experience recently having played for the SWD Academy Week team.

"It is an honour to captain the first team of Oudtshoorn High," he said of his school

"With that comes 50 years of tradition and responsibility."

In an up and down season for Du Plessis team he will have to rely on the experienced members in his squad that have tasted defeat from Outeniqua last year.

"We have eight players who played in this Classic Clash last year but we have also lost two first choice players in the last week," Du Plessis added.

It is a clash that is fraught with difficulties for Du Plessis and his men with the opposition adding another string to their bow this time around.

"It is always a tough encounter," he added.

"They like to move the ball wide and play with their backs, but this year they have a strong pack as well."

However, Du Plessis message to his team this week has been one that is fitting to the upcoming clash.

"Even if the odds are against you don’t back down," he concluded.

"It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog."
