Piketberg win Classic
Piketberg turned the tables on Malmesbury's Schoonspruit by winning the 2014 FNB Classic Clash 32-26.
This year the big Piketberg side, with 10 players back from 2013, turned the tables but still had to battle against their fleetfooted visitors.
In 2013 Schoonspruit scored a dramatic try in the last move of the match to win 24-23 in Malmesbury. This year in Piketberg it was nearly the opposite for Piketberg scored the winning try just before the end.
Like last year it was a battle mainly between the big Piketberg forwards and the Schoonspruit backs who, in the words of the Piketberg coach, het ons stukkend gehardloop.
He also says it was a really good match, packed with excitement – a thrill for the spectators. In all nine tries were scored.
Tall lock Christie van der Merwe who is over two metres tall and athletic, and energetic hooker Erich Kankowski have been offered contacts with the Sharks for next year and are weighing up their options.
