Preview: Treverton vs Weston

Treverton will be the host for an enthralling Classic Clash between two schools that are separated by the Mooi River in the KZN midlands.

Treverton will be playing Weston Agricultural College in a long-standing rivalry between the schools. The two schools have been going head-to-head for over 30 years, and eleven years ago an inter-school trophy was introduced to make the tussle that much more enticing to win.

Last year each of the schools celebrated a milestone with Treverton turning 50 years old and Weston 100. Treverton claimed a clean sweep across the board winning all of their fixtures for the day.

However Treverton first XV coach Bob de Wet knows that on the day anything can happen.

"The thing with these big matches is the boys tend to be quiet at practices, but come out firing for the match.

"So there are some nerves, but nerves are a good thing," said De Wet.

Weston have a reputation of being a very physical outfit, and de Wet aims to counter that with some free-flowing rugby by Treverton.

"Weston are extremely physical, they will tackle anything that moves and keep going and going.

"We try and implement a free flowing expansive game, but that will depend on conditions on the day."

This is de Wet's first year in charge of Treverton's first XV, on the contrary Weston have had their same coach Africa Msimango for the past 3 years.

Weston's preparations have been going well for the Classic Clash however Msimango is aware of the threat Treverton can pose on the day.

"Preparations are going well, and we have a full team for Saturday," said Msimango

"Treverton is always unpredictable, they sometimes come across as a weak side, but then on the day they come out guns-blazing.

"They use their forward pack on set-pieces a lot," he added.

It will be a mouth-watering clash between the two very proud schools, and should provide some entertaining rugby as both the schools are wanting to play an expansive game.
