SACS captain: Michael Henning
Michael Henning will lead out a depleted SACS side against Wynberg in their Classic Clash on Saturday, but he expects nothing less than total commitment from his side.
It has been a pretty tough season so far for SACS, but the livewire scrumhalf is determined not to let heads drop ahead of their clash with their old rivals this weekend.
Henning was part of the team that went down to Wynberg last year, and he has called on his side to dig deep as they look to turn the tables this year.
"Our team has changed a lot throughout the season, due to injury and replacement, so the make-up of Saturday's team isn't the same team that started in the beginning of the season. Regardless, we'll be playing with a full strength side up to the task," he said.
The SACS skipper regards leading the first team as the highlight of his rugby career so far and tries his best to lead from the front in all situations.
"It's a great privilege and honour to captain this first team side. It's an opportunity I have grabbed with both hands and is one which entitles me to help bring out the best in my teammates.
"I believe in leading by example and giving 100% unconditionally. Character is one of the most important aspects of rugby. No matter what the situation, I always expect players to give their best," he explained.
As a scrumhalf Henning is the heartbeat of the side and is always looking for an opening to exploit.
"I put pride in my defence and maintain high standards on and off the field. Being a scrumhalf, I enjoy speeding up the game and testing the fringes around rucks," he said.
Apart from being an accomplished sportsman, Henning also sets high academic standards and plans to study medicine next year.
"I'm hoping to attend university next year; my first choice of degree being Medicine and second choice being a Bcom. I will definitely continue playing rugby after school," he said.
