SARU names schools trialists

SARU has named 56 players for the SA Schools trials which take place on Saturday, July 26, at the Barnard Stadium in Kempton Park.

Eventually the squad will be reduced to 28 players to play 'Tests' against  France, Wales and England.

The national selectors chose the trialists after the 2014 Craven Week in Middelburg, Mpumalanga.

Fixtures

15 August: SA Schools vs France at City Park in Cape Town

19 August: SA Schools vs Wales at Outeniqua Park in George

23 August: SA Schools vs England at Markötter Stadium in Stellenbosch

There are 23 backs and 33 forward sin the trials. Two of the players, Jurie Fick and Hacjivah Dayimani played at the Academy Week Week the week before Craven Week.

SARU CEO Jurie Roux said: “This large group of players caught the attention with their exciting skills during another excellent Under-18 Craven Week. All of them now have a final chance to impress the selectors, who have the difficult task to select just 28 players for the upcoming youth internationals.

"Over the years we have seen many players graduate from the Youth Weeks to the SA Schools team and then to either to our provincial unions or the Springbok team.

"We believe this tough competition for our school players will ensure that they are adequately prepared for the demands and challenges of international rugby in future.”
