Schools Rankings - June 15
OPINION: As we head towards the end of the school term and look forward to Craven Week, this final weekend of schoolboy rugby delivered a few noteworthy clashes.
Most top schools had the weekend off, but a handful of Top 50 teams were still in action. In the Western Cape, Paul Roos was pushed all the way in a tight contest against Wynberg, while Paarl Gym once again brought out their cricket bats against SACS in a dominant performance.
Bishops deserves credit for their spirited effort against Paarl Boys’ High, but in the end, the Paarliete simply had too much firepower.
North of the Vaal River, the “Wit Bulle” seem to be regaining their winning form with a solid victory over the “Wit Renosters” of Nelspruit.
EG Jansen is also turning their season around with back-to-back wins over top-tier opponents – first Waterkloof last week, and now Menlopark has had a taste of the Boksburg boys’ growing momentum.
Meanwhile, Transvalia nearly caused a major upset, narrowly going down 41–43 to the Garsfontein “Bere”!
Our next set of rankings will be released after the holidays on July 27.
Best of luck to all the Craven Week players – enjoy the honour of representing your province, and don’t forget to rest those bodies too!
As the legendary Oom Zanberg Jansen used to say, “Nag, ou grote!”
