Schools teams: Provinces & schools

SARU has announced two national schools side to take part in a tournament in the Western Cape in August – a South African Schools team and a South African Schools A team to join with teams from England, France, Italy and Wales.

Western Province dominate the SA Schools team with 12 players out of 26, which  makes up 46% of the team. They have a further five in the A team – 17 altogether, and Cornel Smit's omission is probably due to an injury. In addition Stedman Gans, Embrose Papier and Andell Loubser are really from the Western Cape.

Of the Western Province dozen, four are from Paarl Boys' High, who are followed by Paul Roos with three and Paarl Gim with two. Other schools with two players each are Affies, Jeppe and Grey PE.

Paarl Boys' High also have two players in the A team. No other school has more than two but Affies, Garsfontein and Framesby each have two.

It seems to strange to see just one Grey College representative – IG Prinsloo in the A team though the big prop played for SA Schools in 2014.
