Schoonies easily brush Wollies aside
Schoonspruit thrashed hosts Wolmaransstad 42-11 in a FNB Classic Clash in Wolmaransstad on Saturday to help them gain retribution for an early season draw.
Finally, the big day arrived. The day where Schoonspruit and Wolmaransstad would clash.
The singing of the learners created an electric atmosphere and contributed to amazing geez. There was a buzz of excitement in the air as both schools sang their school songs with pride while the cheerleaders kept the crowd in full voice.
Schoonspruit took the game to Wollies from the first whistle and scored three great tries to take a comfortable 15-3 lead at the halftime break.
Schoonies continued to dominate the encounter and increased their lead as the match came to a conclusion. Wollies would taste some joy though when Dirkie Taljaard crossed for their only try of the match with Fanus Pieterse contributing six points with the boot.
Tries by Elias Sithole, Renier Swart, Wynand Bezuidenhout and Jano van Zyl – who also contributed points with the boot – helped Schoonies clinch a massive 42-11 victory over their rivals.
Schoonspruit coach Eben Fensham admitted their draw with Wollies at the beginning of the year contributed to them putting in a well-oiled performance.
"We learned a lot from the draw we had against them earlier in the year and we learnt a harsh lesson that day. From that point on, we will never underestimate any opponent which showed in our on-field performance. The team was highly motivated for this match and thankfully, the result went our way," Fensham said.
