St Andrew's: April Rugby Report
The rugby club had a busy April ‘holiday’, With 90 boys involved in festivals all around the country.
The Under-14s travelled to Durban to take part in the Under-14 Independent Rugby Schools Festival (IRSF) hosted by Clifton. They had a couple of injuries but ended up pulling through well enough. They won four games, drew one and lost one. The boys enjoyed the tour and lots of rugby lessons were learnt.
We hosted the Under-15 Independent Schools Rugby Festival over the last weekend of the holidays. It was a successful festival with 12 schools competing. We also managed to give an opportunity to our local township schools as an invitational Albany team. Our boys played well and got five wins from five games. The wins against St David’s and St Benedict’s being the highlights.
The Under-16s travelled to Cape Town where they spent some time at the high performance training facility in Stellenbosch and then played two games at the Wynberg Festival. They won both games against Belville and Wynberg.
The first team went to St Stithians for the Easter festival. They won their first two games against St David’s and St Benedict’s comfortably, and went down to SACS in their final game at St Stithians. The guys then got together for their Saturday game against St John’s at the Grey festival. This was a close game against a very good St John’s team. We won this game 21-10. We have lost a couple of close games this year and so it was great to see the boys hold out for a tough win.
Special thank you to all the staff who gave up their precious family time to help the boys. Over 90 boys, 17 games, five different cities and lots of happy, bruised boys.
