Swartberg captain: Marchel Godfrey
Marchel Godfrey says that leading Swartburg out in their FNB Classic Clash against Hawston will be the highlight of his rugby career so far.
The hard-hitting midfielder is in his second year with the first team, and although they have had some mixed results this year, the big derby this weekend will be the biggest game of the season.
He intends to lead from the front and fire his team up with his passion for the game.
"I feel honored to be captain and I always try to lead by example. I am passionate, I'm motivated and I always give everything I have," he said.
Godfrey knows that it will be a tough ask against their rivals, and explained that the key for his side will be to remain as focused as possible.
"We have had highs and lows during this season, hopefully we are fully focused for what is to come.
"Both schools have a rich tradition and since the players of the current Hawston team have parents who attended Swartberg, makes for building further bridges and strengthening bonds.
"They play a tough and hard game. Often intimidating and full of running," the Swartberg captain warned.
Swartberg have a balance of youth and experience in their side, and Godfrey is hopeful that they can do the business this weekend.
"We have had a few changes which might speak of in experience. But we have a few senior players who have been there before. Hopefully, the mix will be just right.
"Every time you feel you cannot go much further, then you must find a reason to keep going and win it because our motto is: Never Quit," he revealed.
With his school career coming to an end, Godfrey intends to continue playing rugby and hopes to one day play at the highest level.
"I will continue playing rugby, and maybe I will become the next Springbok from my school," he said.
