The Battle for Kimberley

The Siege of Kimberley was famous in South African history. This FNB Classic Clash between Diamantveld and Noord-Kaap in the diamond capital of the world is not a siege but a battle for top spot amongst Kimberley schools.

Diamantveld and Noord-Kaap are by far the top sides in Kimberley. They may not have been as successful this year but they are still amongst the top sides in South Africa, unafraid to play against anybody. Perforce they play out of Kimberley a great deal.

Season so Far

Noord-Kaap have played 12 matches. They won four and drew one. The draw was with the powerful Paarl Boys' High side. They had good wins over Marlow, Hentie Cillie, Upington  and Hoërskool Middelburg. Amongst Top 20 sides, they lost to Wynberg and Oakdale.

Diamantveld have also played 12 matches, winning nine and losing to three Top 20 sides – Menlopark, HTS Middelburg and Maritzburg College. Perhaps their best win was over Bethlehem Voortrekker.

The only  opponents they have in common are Upington. Diamantveld beat them 52-26 and Noord-Kaap beat them 43-6.
