Vereeniging Gim captain: Erjee Heenop

Vereeniging Gim skipper Erjee Heenop was part of the side that lost to Transvalia last year, and he is hoping to gain revenge when the two sides meet in their Classic Clash this weekend.

The physical flyhalf, who weighs a hefty 92kg and stands 1.88m tall, is determined to lead from the front as he looks to pull the strings on Saturday and unlock the Transvalia defence.

Heenop has been selected in the Falcons Academy side this year, but his focus right now is on getting his team over the line this weekend.

"I try to guide my team and lead by example to motivate my players on and off the field. I talk on the field as much as possible and make the right decisions in the moment of the game," he explained.

It has been a tough start to the season for Vereeniging Gim, but Heenop feels that they have turned a corner and are ready for whatever Transvalia throw at them this weekend.

"It wasn't that good at the start of the season, but we are showing character now.

"Although there are a few injuries we are just about full strength. Otherwise we are balanced and we are starting to believe in ourselves and our coaches," he said.

However, he is not expecting any favours from Transvalia who are always a tough opponent.

"It is going to be hard and physical, we are like earthly enemies but we still enjoy the competition with Transvalia," he said.

Heenop plans to continue playing rugby next year, and his message to his team this week has been to give absolutely everything on Saturday.

"We need to focus completely on Saturday's game. It won't come easy but we will give our best and may the best team win," he added.
